Identity Collage Portrait
For this project we were supposed to create a self portrait using small squares or pieces of magazine pages. While making my portrait I tried to use skin tones and hair colors that resembled me. I used multiple different shades of blonde hair, when the different shades came together as a whole they blended well. For my background I chose darker colors to counteract with my lighter hair, as well as choosing words that represent my personality and words describing me.
In my opinion creating a portrait of myself does not change the way I want others to see me. Creating a self portrait is about how one sees them self not about changing what he/she looks like. I do think that self portraits of others can change your perception of them a little bit. In a self portrait you are not able to see the little details, which some people might not want people to see. |
The real Anatomy of Technology |
|
In my drawing you will see many aspects of anatomy. The technology I chose to include is an IPad, because I wanted to make it look like it was being charged by something in the body. Then I thought of a spine and how I could make a spine go through the IPad. I then decided to add more to the drawing and though that an IPad wouldn't be just floating it would be held in the hands of a person. I chose to draw skeleton hands holding the IPad, and then to add more coloring to the piece I chose to incorporate veins coming out of each corner of the IPad. The colors I chose were different shades of grey to represent the colors of bones. In each grey I chose there was different undertones. In the skeleton hands the undertone of one of the greys is green, but yet one can still tell it was bone. There was also a blending technique used so the edges were darker and it got lighter as I shaded inward. After coloring the bones and IPad there was just not enough color which gave me the idea to make veins coming from each corner of the IPad. For the veins I used multiple shades of red, purple, and blue. This technique was used to give the veins more depth. |
The Value of Words
![Picture](/uploads/1/2/1/7/121774149/published/img-2684.jpg?1544195742)
This project was not only about the picture we were making out of words, but the words themselves. I chose to draw a helmet, throughout the helmet you will notice logos. These logos are sponsors for motocross. I also chose words that both described the feelings of a rider and the riders themselves. I also incorporated the states in which there is race tracks.
The relationship between words and works of art is that the words usually describe the artwork. I feel that words give more meaning to the piece. Each piece of artwork tells a story in some way and incorporating words to the piece tells the story in a different way and can also show more expression.

Print Making

Printmaking is not something that I ever heard of before this class. Printmaking was not anything that I had done before, therefore I was nervous to start carving my print. Looking at other prints and how much detail there was in them, I didn't think I could make a print. My print is of a pineapple, which does not have a lot of meaning to me, but more of just a decorative piece for me.
Starting this project I was nervous to start carving because I didn't want to mess up my print by carving something wrong. Once I began the carving process I realized the carving was not the difficult part. The most difficult part was making every shape and detail the way I wanted it to be. In the end I was happy with the result of the print, I think the imperfect details of the print gave the print more character.

Free Handed Chalk Drawing
![Picture](/uploads/1/2/1/7/121774149/published/img-2761.jpg?1547681810)
At the beginning of class we were told we were going to be doing free handed chalk drawings. We were told for this project there was nothing particular we were supposed to draw, and we were just supposed to let out hand do all the work. Listening to what the assignment was, I became nervous about not having a plan at all, I want to think about what I was going to draw and plan everything out. The room became silent and everyone was concentrated on the “scribbles” they were drawing all around there paper, I was doing the same. At first the drawing did not have meaning and was not going to be anything, but as time progressed I used color and made a flower out of the scribbled lines on the paper. I think doing this activity was relaxing and gave us a new perspective on how are can be perceived.
Chalk drawing

This chalk drawing was much easier than the first. We made a plan and got an idea of what we wanted to make. I chose to duplicate a picture I had taken in Colorado. I chose this photo because I like the colors that I could use and blend together to get a seamless blend. This chalk drawing had more meaning to me than the first, because I chose a photo that meant something to me and I wanted to draw. I thought Colorado was a beautiful and it would be fun blending the colors.
Sculpture invitational
|
I chose to sculpt a maquette of a bobber to represent the town of Atwater. When going into Atwater there is a bobber on the welcome sign. My experience was a learn from your mistakes experience. I tried multiple different techniques to make the clay in the round shape I was hoping to get, but it failed several times. Once I found a technique that worked for me the project became much easier. I then used sculpting tools to carve out certain shapes and different areas for a hollow inside. This sculpture would represent the town of Atwater in a way for everyone to see and enjoy.

Social Justice Issue
![Picture](/uploads/1/2/1/7/121774149/published/img-2883.jpg?1547755951)
The social justice issue I chose for this assignment goes along the lines of sex trafficking, sexual abuse, and child abuse. I have not seen this kind of issue happen but I have heard about these issues occurring. This is an issue that I am against, and I believe many others are against this issue as well.
This issue is not an issue that is commonly talked about. I do not think there are many people who would agree with abuse of any kind. The only people who might agree are the people being the abusers. This artwork is not offensive in any way. This drawing is raising awareness for sex trafficking and child abuse. There are some cases when artwork is offensive, and it is okay for artwork to be offensive. Sometimes people express their thoughts and feelings through their artwork. The most challenging part of creating this piece was drawing portrait of the girl. Getting the face of the girl to look realistic without using color was difficult. I used chalks for the color, and the only color I used was for the bruises on her face. I did this technique to show more emotion and depth.
